That's the reality Braxton Garrett, a former Alabama high school phenom, has faced. But now, he's back on the mound, determined to reclaim his place in the Miami Marlins' rotation.
Garrett, a standout from Florence High School, is currently showcasing his skills at the Marlins' spring training in Jupiter, Florida. This marks his second comeback from surgery on his pitching elbow, a testament to his resilience and unwavering dedication to the game. Despite not having pitched in the majors since June 17, 2024, Garrett exudes optimism, stating he's "feeling really good" and eager to experience the pre-game jitters once again. The Marlins' rotation picture is intriguing. Sandy Alcantara, the team's workhorse with 174.2 innings pitched last season, leads the pack.
